NIKS Mission Statement

English As a Global Language
Eight years ago, we started the Nanko Kids' Station for 2 year-olds. Soon afterwards, the idea for an English-immersion Kids' Station was born. It is said that language is culture. As the world progresses towards globalization, English plays an important role in today's world. Even non-English speaking countries are being connected and brought together with English as a communication tool. Hence it is our goal, through English education, to raise children who will become globally competent and socially active human beings that make an impact in the world.

The First Language Principle
By the ages of 5 and 6, children will have auditorily and verbally integrated the grammatic structure of their first language. Japanese children will become able to speak Japanese, Chinese children Chinese, and children of English-speaking countries English. Likewise, if Japanese children are exposed to an English-prevalent environment, English will be integrated by Japanese children naturally, and Japanese children will become able to speak English.

2 Year-olds and the Importance of Their Verbal Environment
During the time of 2 and 3 years old, a child's potential for speech is at its highest. During this time a child takes in everything that is in its environment and stores it away. This stored information later develops into the child's vocabulary that she/he will use. Even a child raised in a Japanese environment - if there are other languages present - those languages become incorporated so she/he will be able to use them later on. Such is the case in international marriages and children who grow up in multi-cultural households - they are exposed to different languages during their childhood and are able to utilize the languages they pick up in the future.

We, at Nanko International Kids' Station, want to take advantage of the time when the child is most vulnerable to her/his verbal environment, and when his/her ability for speech is in its first stages of development. We aim to integrate English into the children's everyday life through natural environmental exposure. It is in this way that we hope to broaden the children's language make-up, as well as their minds, so that more doors will be open to them in the future.
